Maximizing Cultural Capacity: Advancing Standards-Based Improvements in Early Childhood Education
NCCF received a planning grant to develop a proposal for a research project regarding the impact of culture on early development, and the implications for ECE programs. Drs. Kagan and Reid, and their colleague, Catherine Scott-Little, Ph.D., at the University of North Carolina, have developed a conceptual framework and design proposal for a large project to develop tools and processes that will enable states to promote culturally responsive standards and pedagogy in ECE settings. The proposed project would support state efforts to effectively serve the nation’s remarkably diverse population of young children. A copy of a recently completed extensive review of the literature regarding children’s early development and their cultural context can be accessed here: Culture Literature Review Bibliography
