Standards in an International Context

NCCF worked closely with various international organizations to develop, validate, and implement early learning and development standards for young children. Standards are statements or expectations for learning and development that specify what young children should know and be able to do at various ages. Built on the values stated for young children, the standards work had significant implications for early childhood education, with over 40 countries involved in the effort.  Project goals included synthesizing lessons learned from various countries experiences with the standards effort. The project also chronicled how countries are using standards and the challenges they faced in developing and implementing them. It produced a comprehensive volume detailing the international experience related to standards.
